Was your family background musical?

We thought not, but recently I discovered that in 1893
my mother's uncle [the Hon. Charles de Courcey, heir to the Earldom of Kinsale in Ireland] gained a scolarship [aged 31]to the Royal College of Music , London on the TRUMPET. None of my family knew this !

What made you decide to play trumpet?

My elder brother played in a trad Jazz band at school. In
the holidays I borrowed it off him so much my parents bought me one.

At what age did you start?

10 /11 ?

On leaving your education, have you always been a full time musician?

Yes.

Describe your early experiences of semi / pro work please.

As a student I toured with ballet and opera companies.
A good way tp learn the business.

Who were your teachers?

Bernard Brown & Ernest Hall.

What Orchestral experience have you had?

Sadlers Wells Opera [1966-73] English Chamber [1974-76]
Royal Philharmonic [1976-80]

What session (Jingles / TV) experience have you had?

1975-1990 Hundreds including "Aniques Roadshow", "Highway"
[with Harry Secombe]"Dr. Who" "Miss Marple" etc.......

What small group / ensemble experience have you had?

London Gabrieli Brass Ensemle, Philip Jones BE, London Brass Virtuosi,
Locke Brass, Baroque Brass of London, The Nash Ensemble, The Fires of London, The Kings Consort, The Kings Trumpeters, The Parley of Instruments, The Handel Players.

Other playing experiences?

15 years in film studios [1980-1995] Early music groups - The English Baroque Soloists. Academy of Ancient Music, English Consort, Amsterdam Baroque, London Baroque, Tafelmusic[Toronto] , Handel
and Haydn Society [Boston, USA] Soloist since c1990

Time off occurs naturally; I fit it round my schedule.
